Nicole Dorigo is a specialist language coach working with Opera Australia.
Since 2014, she has worked on all of the company’s productions in French and Italian in Sydney and Melbourne seasons, as well as with the Young Artists Program and the Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour (HOSH) productions.
She has worked with Pinchgut Opera productions since 2004, and regularly consults to other institutions on language, including Australian and overseas opera companies.
Nicole has also assisted with language coaching for individual concerts (including the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra and the Sydney Philharmonia), and has a private studio in East Sydney where she works mostly with young artists and professional opera singers on French and Italian repertoire.
Before commencing work as a professional language coach, Nicole established the first language programs for Vocal and Opera Studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and consulted to other Australian universities to assist with their opera training courses.
Nicole is a Churchill Fellow, having been the recipient of a Churchill Fellowship to undertake research as part of a project on language in opera at the Juilliard School and Metropolitan Opera in New York, and at the Istituto di Italianistica e Filologia Romanza in Venice.
Nicole is a graduate of The University of Sydney. As part of her formal language studies, she has been the recipient of a number of prestigious academic and government scholarships, including Italian Government scholarships and the Frederick May Foundation award.
