Daniel Macey is a baritone with Opera Australia (most recently in the role of Dancaire (Carmen)), having started his career with the company in 2014 both in the mainstage chorus and in their School's Touring Company.
Daniel gained a place in Pacific Opera’s Young Artist program, debuted the role of Michele in Il Tabarro, and was a professional fellow for the Hawaii Performing Arts Festival, where he performed Il Conte (Figaro).
Whilst at the Sydney Conservatorium, Daniel played the roles of Der Calender in Gluck’s Der Pilger von Mekka, Jupiter in Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld, and the role of Count Robinson in Cimarosa’s Il Matrimonio Segreto.
Since graduating, and before working with Opera Australia, Daniel performed with a number of companies in Sydney and NSW, including the Sydney Chamber Opera, Opera New England, Pacific Opera and Rockdale Opera, and with Western Sydney Opera.
Daniel was Winner of the Sydney International Song Prize in 2019, and was a Finalist in 2018 and 2019 of the German-Australian Opera Grant in Wiesbaden. Among other awards, Daniel was a Finalist for the Opera and Arts Vocal Awards Scholarship and the Joan Sutherland & Richard Bonynge Bel Canto award in 2015, and was a finalist in the 2016 Sydney Eisteddfod Opera Scholarship.

Training
Graduating from the Conservatorium High School in 2007, Daniel gained a string scholarship to the UTAS Conservatorium of Music, completing his BMus in Viola Performance in 2010. After taking up singing full time in 2011 he gained a place in the Advanced Opera Diploma course at the Sydney Conservatorium, which he completed in 2013.
